The Attraction & Holiday Park Slagharen renames its monorail to 'Pioneer Express 63' as a tribute to the park's rich history and in honour of its founder.
19.02.2021 – In these times when everyone spends countless hours indoors and getting cosy at home, it's a good time for many to retrieve their photo books from the attic. Special moments from the past are frequently recounted and are accompanied by the words: 'Do you remember when...?' During the past few months, the Attraction & Holiday Park Slagharen has also retrieved old images 'from the attic'. The rich archive inspired the team, resulting in a restyle of the monorail, a historic route through the tunnels and Pioneer Express 63.
Starting Saturday afternoon, 22 May, you can take a trip through Slagharen's rich history in the Pioneer Express 63.
Many generations experienced beautiful moments at Slagharen, and when the park opens its gates again in the spring of 2021, many new memories will be added. The smile on the faces of many is why Henk Bemboom opened the then Shetland Pony Park Slagharen for the very first time at Whitsun in 1963. Meanwhile, many years have passed and not much has changed in this philosophy, but the same cannot be said of the park.
The now very famous Slagharen has undergone many changes since its opening in 1963, but it has always remained a place full of inspiration.
Intrigued by its rich history, managing director Dave Storm and his team decided to rename the monorail the Pioneer Express 63. The Pioneer Express 63 makes its way along the old office of Bemboom sr., where many secrets lie. The exterior of the monorail has been restyled, while still making its familiar trip through the park, but once inside the tunnels, guests are inspired by beautiful images from the past. Grandpa and grandma become children again and will flash back to their childhood during the ride, and on the way back home, the grandchildren on the back seat, with their little red cheeks, will listen attentively to the beautiful stories about the good old days.
Although the Attraction & Holiday Park Slagharen joined the Spanish Parques Reunidos in 2012, it has not forgotten its roots. 'We are convinced that we are paying tribute to the rich history of Slagharen and honour the memory of Bemboom sr., who would have turned 100 years old on 20 February 2021,' said Dave Storm.
The new Pioneer Express will be opened by Dave Storm and the Bemboom family at the start of the 2021 season.
